A Green Lifestyle to Bequeath Our Children a Healthy Future

By Heather G Leyson

Globally nature is being increasingly impacted by man-made emissions, spillage and effluent, two of the most noticeable effects being climate change and acid rain. It would be splendid if we could continue to exist on this amazing planet without destroying it in the process. For city-dwellers it may appear to be a tantalising mirage to think of drawing cool, clean air into their lungs, with no harmful poisons or toxins. The thing is, this is no longer possible; we humans have ensured that with the pollution we've created we'll be breathing in airborne poisons, which can impair our habitat and ultimately our health.

All forms of life found in that enormous body of water, our oceans, which total 70% of planet earth's surface, are being ravaged by pollutants such as oil and chemical spillage, which inevitably affects us as well. Countless fishing jobs that were reliant on the healthy bounty of the sea have been eliminated. Neighborhoods have depended on fishing for hundreds of years, for both food and economic prospects, and now all of this is coming to an end for many. Still fresh in our memories is the Deepwater Horizon spill, which gave adequate testimony to the disastrous consequences of oil spills, causing the loss of many jobs and costing billions of dollars. The food chain together with the whole of the ecosystem suffered serious damage, as a direct consequence of the deaths of large numbers of not only fish but also birds. All as a result of humans and their greed for oil, with virtually no thought, except in hindsight, for Mother Earth and her many other children.

As the earth's known oil reserves approach exhaustion, billions are pumped into exploration for new fields, money which could be used to increase and develop green energy production. The possibility of providing massive amounts of green energy is huge, without damaging the environment. One would think it's a no-brainer, given the possibilities offered by green energy alternatives, along with their being passive towards the environment. Take solar panels for instance, they will work effectively in sunlit locations and they can produce electricity as well as heat up water. Wind turbines are another way of using green energy as they simply have to have wind to make them create energy. The good side of wind turbines is they work 24/7, providing there is sufficient wind. We should understand that the time to implement an assertive green energy program is now, given the environmental damage caused by oil, and the limited supply thereof. If we did that, global warming and the other ruinous effects of pollution could actually be stopped, and just possibly reversed.

Numerous short term advantages will accrue to us, and we shall be presenting future generations many benefits. We desire for our children to grow up surrounded by all the beauty the earth is endowed with, happy and without fear of violent, distressing weather events and food shortages. Beginning to live green, in addition to looking after the environment, could be the only way we can ensure this.

It will be a huge and rewarding achievement to constrain the harm to our home, planet earth, and it's environment, but it will take time, much money and lots of work. Gymtime55nyc120776
